Trivia: Of the two actors who play the chief wardens of Shutter Island, Ted Levine portrayed serial killer Buffalo Bill in The Silence of the Lambs (1991) and John Carroll Lynch played a suspected serial killer in Zodiac (2007/I).
Plot: Leonardo DiCaprio is back, this time in 1954, playing the U.S. marshal Teddy Daniels. With his partner he has to investigate the disappearance of a patient from Boston’s Shutter Island Ashecliffe Hospital, one of the most horrific places that there is considering that it hosts only mental criminals, and that there is no way out. He wanted an assignment on the Shutter Island for personal reasons too, but as time passes he wonders if he hasn’t been brought there as part of a twisted plot as the doctors use radical, illegal and sinister treatments. His investigating skills will reveal a lead, but encounters problems in purusing this as the hospital doesn’t give him access to the records he needs, not to mention that a hurricane cuts off communication with the land and dangerous criminals sort of escape, leading Teddy to doubt everything and lose his own sanity. The Shutter Island trailer seems a bit too revealing.
