Plot:
A Name is a Name is a cross between a feature film and a documentary, however looking more like a classic ‘on the road film’. The movie takes place in the Republic of Macedonia during the course of 7 months. Basically this is a movie about a group of people that call themselves Macedonians describing what being a Macedonian means to them. It’s presented as a story of a Scandinavian man who comes to Macedonia and travels around the country on a motorcycle talking to Macedonians from all classes.
The traveler never speaks on camera and we don’t learn his name or what country he comes from (in reality he is portrayed by director Sigurjon Einarsson), his thoughts being narrated instead by Sir Andrew Motion with subtitles in English for the interviews. Throughout the conversations Macedonia itself will be presented with all its stunning landscapes and scenery that make up this ancient land.
Monasteries and mosques, historical sites, towns, cities and little hamlets, lakes and mountains all are presented in this movie, artfully woven into the narration. Musical tracks from “A name is a name” are donated by Macedonian and internationally known artists.
