Plot:
The action/adventure film “Yohan – The Child Wanderer” is based on true stories about child wanderers and about child labor in Norway and imigration to the USA.

In Yohan – The Child Wanderer, a little boy of no more than 10 year (YOHAN) overcomes problems by working hard, being perseverent and smart (as we all should be). He has to deal with bears and wolves while trying to protect animals that he has to take care of. He meets good and also bad people on his way and against all odds he survives even when dealing with the toughest parts of his life (being poor). Movie is filmed both in Norway (what a beautiful country) and countryside in the United States (Big Bear Mountain in California for the wolf and bear scenes using Hollywood trained animals and in New York City for the scenes with Kris Kristofferson).

His family is trying to survive in the 1890s in Norway, his father left on a ship for America to earn much money, so young Yohan has to come with some plans of his own to help his family. His jealous older brother has other ideas so he trades Yohan to an agent to become a farm laborer. Yohan is sent off to work on a farm providing cheap labor in very harsh conditions. Yohan’s journey is filled with danger and loneliness. On his trip he he meets two other child wanderers, 8 year-old Anna and her younger brother and toghether are led by the boy named Aslak until they reach the farm. Yohan becomes a shepherd, protecting farmer’s sheeps from wolves and grizzly bears.
