Movie: Sucker Punch (2011)
From the trailers, Sucker Punch makes Matrix look like a little kid in terms of sci-fi ideas and special effects. One of the writers, Snyder, describes the movie as “Alice in Wonderland with machine guns” – he forgot to mention that not only there are girls with machine guns, but also dragons, B-25 bombers, brothels and huge samurai (scene reminded me a bit of one of the last Resident Evil movies).
Set in 1950, Sucker Punch is about a young girl abused by her wicked stepfather, to the point where she kicks his ass. That’s why he institutionalizes her in a mental facility where she starts to imagine an alternative reality. Along with several of her friends she plans to escape from that imaginary world by stealing five objects – hoping that the escape from the virtual world would help her in the real one where she has to escape being lobotomized.
