James Cameron’s Sanctum

Movie: Sanctum (2011)

  • Director: Alister Grierson
  • Writers: John Garvin, Andrew Wight
  • Release Date: February 4, 2011
  • Country: USA
  • Genre: Action, Adventure, Drama
  • Main cast: Rhys Wakefield, Allison Cratchley and Christopher Baker

Plot:
James Cameron is the executive producer of Sanctum, a new 3D underwater thriller, but don’t be fooled into believing this will be another Avatar. The movie surrounds a team of divers as they explore the most beautiful underwater cave on Earth (actually cave system, the famous Esa-ala Caves). However when they least expected it, a tropical storm forced them going deep into the caverns where they must fight the water, the dangerous cave and themselves as panic makes you do stupid things.

Frank McGuire is a master diver and his team includes his own son, Frank, who’s only 17-year-old, so when they are forced to change plans and navigate underwater labyrinths Frank’s worry grows tremendously. Not only he’s responsible for his own life but his son’s too. Will they survive or die in the most inaccessible place on Earth?

Sanctum’s trailer is not very convincing, so even if James Cameron’s signature is on this movie I doubt it will be anywhere close to what Avatar was.

You’re right Ben, Sanctum was a total letdown. I still can’t believe James Cameron was involved in this movie, which I would’ve released straight to DVD. Anyway, he’ll make up for this in Avatar 2.
