Plot:

Iron Sky is different than any other movie you’ve heard about, for sure. The first thing is that this movie is partly crowd-founding. The creators behind it also made Star Wreck (an excellent dark comedy about Star Wars) and beside their funding they also accepted money from crowd-founding sources. Excellent idea, because this way the filmmakers are in direct contact with their users.

The second thing is its theme. My God, from the teaser trailers released so far I find the music excellent, the idea brilliant for a dark comedy, and the visuals impressive. Supposedly the Nazis created a base on the dark side of the Moon in 1945, and they built iron UFOs until 2018 when the Nazis attack to win the entire Earth. One of the teasers shows a swastika type of mother-ship (imitating the one in Star Wars, Death Star, only in size not shape) that keeps launching smaller ships. Brilliant! The movie is definitely set to be launched in 2012, so that’s great news meaning that they really managed to get the needed funding. Hopefully this will be a great movie and the start of many other crowd-founded movies.

Iron Sky is a Finnish-German-Australian co-production and was filmed in English, with a budget of 7.5 million euros. My admiration for Finnish movies just grew exponentially, especially after I’ve seen Rare Exports, the other Finnish success.
