Plot:
It’s a bit strange to see Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson uniting to create a 3D animation, but I guess that’s what makes The Adventures of Tintin one of the most expected movies of 2011. The Secret of the Unicorn is the first film from a trilogy based on 3 comic books created by the Belgian artist Georges Rémi (nom de plume Hergé): The Crab with the Golden Claws, The Secret of the Unicorn and Red Rackham’s Treasure. If you haven’t read them it means you’re too young. There are actually 24 books following the adventures of Tintin, all published between 1929 and 1976. This is why two such great names from the movie industry decided to bring these to live, because it’s books like these that were part of their childhood too.
Tintin (voice of Jamie Bell) is an young Belgian reporter joining Captain Haddock (voice of Andy Serkis) in its quest to discover the treasure of his ancestor, Sir Francis Haddock, aboard the ship “Unicorn”. The crew grows by one when an escaped convict joins them, however not without problems given that he is being hunted down by detectives Thomson and Thomson (Simon Pegg and Nick Frost).
If you’re thinking where does Daniel Craig character step in, then you’re in for a surprise given that he is Red Rackham, a famous pirate that will attack the Unicorn in an attempt to gain control of the ship. The movie will be released in 3D so even if the trailer doesn’t reveal much (it’s barely a minute), you can expect to see amazing scenes in the final version. The soundtrack sounds excellent too, John Williams being the composer which is not surprising given that he does most of Steven Spielberg movies’ OST. Wonder if they changed the story or they are using the same scenario as in the books, guess we’ll find out soon.
